If you don't read my blog, the terrorists win

Look at me slacking already on my regular posting features. Sunday came and went with no song, and I failed to share my favorite things from the net this week.
I suck.
But I have a very good reason. No, really, I do.

You see my mother just returned from a trip to France, so I hosted a little welcome home dinner for her yesterday. She brought with her many tasty culinary treats of European origin. We dined. We wined. Oh, how we wined.

For Christmas this year I bought her an inexpensive but very well reviewed digital camera for her trip. The last time she traveled, to Alaska, she had borrowed my daughter's Kodak Easy Share, and the few pictures she did take were horrible. Seriously. She might have taken 10 pictures at the most and they were all brow furrowers. I didn't want her trip to France to go similarly undocumented, so I tried to make sure she had a decent-ish camera that wouldn't overwhelm her. I didn't want to spend too much on it, though, because I doubt she'll use it very much unless she's traveling.

My extensive research led me to the conclusion that this little Panasonic number was the way to go.

I was able to secure the camera, a decent size memory card, and a cute little case for just over a hundred bucks. I was pretty pleased. Unfortunately, I didn't get to check it out too much when I gave it to her on Christmas day because, well, frankly we got in a fight and she left. We're dramatic like that. At any rate, I really had no idea about the camera beyond what I'd read until yesterday.

After reviewing the pictures she took while abroad, I must say I was impressed. The colors were very vivid and vibrant, and the images had an unexpected...depth. Many of her shots were remarkably well composed, like she must have been at ease with the camera.I would show you a few of them, but I somehow neglected to save any of them to my computer.

Perhaps another time. Like when there are actual readers to appreciate them.

But if I were ever going to for some reason buy a digital point and shoot, I'd definitely go with the Panasonic Lumix.
